Supporting Local Communities
QLGRA Mission Statement

The Queensland Local Government Reform Alliance Inc. (QLGRA) is a non-partisan statewide alliance of groups and individuals united in the common goal of reforming the Local Government and Planning Legislation and processes, for the re-empowering of Queensland Local Communities by improving representation and governance standards in all areas of local government.
Forced Amalgamation
Forced amalgamations in 2008 reduced the number of councils in Queensland from 165 to 77. In 2013 four (4) councils successfully de-amalgamated, whilst many others were rejected by the state Government. On 13th July 2013 delegates from a range of Queensland ratepayer & concerned citizen organisations met to establish and formalise the umbrella group the QLGRA. Statewide membership has followed and the QLGRA continues to grow.
